Outside the problem is not looks, it is water and frost. The outdoor trowelled finish takes traffic and cleaning; resin bound gravel lets water through instead of channelling it, so no puddles and no drains in the middle of the terrace.
For poolsides and driveways colour matters too: light surfaces stay walkable barefoot even in summer.
